Other Organizations Working For a Common Good

Veg Food Bank is an intentionally intersectional initiative! We love supporting other organizations that advocate for food security, democracy, sanctuary, health, equity, education, basic income and environmental protection. Check out some of the organizations we love below!

PROOF

Despite the long history of food banks in Canada, household food insecurity has persisted at high rates. PROOF’s research highlights the need for policy makers to shift their focus from food charity to public policies that increase the incomes of vulnerable households.

Wishing Well Sanctuary

Wishing Well provides a safe haven for abused and neglected animals, promotes care and respect for all beings through humane education, and fosters personal and community responsibility to alleviate suffering.

Wishing Well is also home to the TVFB’s Veganic Farm!

Animal Justice Academy

Animal Justice Academy is a FREE online advocacy training program, supportive community, and action collective for those trying to make a better world for animals.

Want to become an informed, vibrant, and effective champion for animals through political engagement, effective communication, media, diet, public outreach, resilience-building, and your own unique communities and social circles? Join AJA and make 2023 an even bigger year for helping animals.

Fair Vote Canada

Fair Vote campaigns for equal effective votes and fair representation at every level of government and throughout civil society by various means including lobbying legislators for electoral law reform, litigation, public education, citizens’ assemblies, and referenda.

Plant BAsed Data

Plant Based Data (PBD) is a free online database (with summaries and topic reports) of the academic and institutional scientific evidence calling for shifts to plant-based foods. The site focuses on the effects of diet on human health, global ecology, food security, zoonotic disease, economics, and policy for a sustainable and healthful future.

BLACK VEGANS OF TORONTO

Black Vegans of Toronto support Black Canadians who are vegan, vegetarian, and those interested in changing to a plant-based vegan lifestyle. We support each other and respectfully encourage our families, friends, and Black Canadians to adopt this healthful, disease-preventing lifestyle.

The motivation to start this group came from the not-very-public, alarming fact that black people in Canada are critically unhealthy. Black Canadians are very high on the list of those suffering from food-borne diseases like Arthritis, Alzheimer's, Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, Parkinson’s, and Lupus.

A plant-based lifestyle can prevent and sometimes cure as much as 80 percent of these illnesses. We also cultivate a farm (Atiba Farm) to address food justice, food deserts, childhood obesity, and other food-related issues that affect Black Canadians and our families.

Animal Justice

Animal Justice is Canada’s only national animal law advocacy organization.

Animal Justice believes that animals need lawyers, and their legal team works to protect animals from cruelty and neglect. Canada has some of the worst animal protection laws in the western world, and their mission is to overhaul the legal system to better reflect our country’s values of compassion and justice for all.

Plant-Based Canada

Plant-based Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of humans, the environment and all its life forms. Their guiding principles are to educate the public and health professionals on the evidence-based benefits of plant-based whole food nutrition, collaborate with like-minded organizations, and to promote research on plant-based whole food nutrition that is healthful and sustainable.
